Cadbury World Birmingham: A Sweet Family Day Out

If you’re planning a family trip to Birmingham, Cadbury World is a must-visit, especially during the school holidays. Located in Bournville, it’s a fantastic mix of interactive exhibits, chocolate-themed fun, and educational experiences for kids of all ages.

We visited with our two boys, aged 4 and 7, and booked a multi-attraction ticket combined with LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, which was much better value for money than buying individual tickets. (Check out our 2-day Birmingham itinerary here)

Although Cadbury World sometimes gets mixed reviews online, we’ve had fun every time we’ve visited. During our most recent 2025 trip, they had made a lot of updates to the tour, including removing the old Cadabra ride and replacing it with the new Chocolate Quest ride, which our kids really enjoyed. Some areas were a bit unclear due to the new order of the tour, so it felt like more changes were still coming.

🏭 What to Expect at Cadbury World

Entrance Area – The entrance can be quite busy and chaotic, especially during school holidays. It can be a bit unclear where you’re supposed to go, so keep an eye on children who like to wander. On the plus side, kids enjoy seeing Freddo outside the entrance, although our 4-year-old preferred to observe him from afar rather than getting a photo.

Chocolate Welcome – At the start, each person receives a Wispa, Curly Wurly, and Dairy Milk, which is a fun way to kick off the visit.

The Aztec Jungle – This is the first zone you enter and has lots to look at for children. Our 7-year-old spent time reading the signs and interacting with the exhibits, while our 4-year-old just ran around, exploring and looking at all the colorful displays.

The Bournville Experience – This section includes videos and cinema-type experiences. One of the shows has moving seats, which our 7-year-old absolutely loved. He wanted to go on it again, but like all sections, you must progress in order through the zones.

Chocolate Making Demonstration – Visitors can watch chocolatiers at work and see chocolate being made in real time.

Chocolate Activity Tables – There is a section where kids get pots of melted chocolate and can add a selection of toppings, then “draw” or create their own chocolate treats.

4D Cinema Experience – After completing the indoor tour, you head to the 4D movie, which has been a highlight for our 7-year-old on every visit. The experience is immersive, with moving seats and special effects. Our kids wanted to go on it again, but like all sections, you must progress in order through the attraction. We have always queued for at least 20 minutes, but the queue is covered, so it’s fine in the rain or sun.

Chocolate Quest Ride – The old Cadabra ride has been removed and replaced with a laser game “chocolate making” ride, where you collect ingredients which magically turn into chocolate bars at the end, which you can take home. After the ride, visitors also receive extra chocolate, which is always a hit with the kids.

African Adventure Play Area – This is a very large outdoor play area that our kids really enjoyed and spent a long time at after the indoor tour. On a previous visit, this area was closed due to rain, so check the weather if you want to make the most of it.

Throughout the experience, there is quite a bit of queueing, especially during school holidays, but everything was manageable.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family-Friendly Features

  • Interactive Exhibits: Engaging for both younger and older children.
  • Live Demonstrations: Watch chocolatiers in action.
  • Outdoor Play Area: The African Adventure Play Area is huge and great for letting kids run around.
  • Hands-On Chocolate Activities: Drawing with melted chocolate and adding toppings.
  • Educational Content: Learn about the history of chocolate and Cadbury’s heritage.
  • 4D Movie: Immersive cinema experience with moving seats and effects.
  • Chocolate Rewards: Free chocolate at the start, extra chocolate after the ride, and the melted chocolate activity.

For families, Cadbury World is ideal for a morning or afternoon visit, and on days when the weather is poor, the indoor areas are plenty to keep kids entertained.

💰 Tickets and Multi-Attraction Options

We booked a multi-attraction ticket that included Cadbury World and LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, which worked out better value for money. You can also combine it with SEA LIFE Birmingham if you wish to do three attractions in one day.

🚗 Getting There

  • By Car: Free onsite parking is available, which is very convenient for families.
  • By Train: The nearest station is Bournville, with regular services from Birmingham New Street. If you’re travelling by train, check for discounted multi-attraction tickets that sometimes include travel.

We personally drove from home (around 2 hours), timed our 11:30 slot to allow for traffic, and still had a smooth visit.

🧾 Our Family Experience

We arrived a little late due to traffic, but it didn’t impact our visit. On this trip, we spent about 4 hours at Cadbury World, enjoying the exhibits, rides, and play areas. On previous visits, we sometimes spent less time, especially when the outdoor play area was closed due to rain.

After Cadbury World, we checked into Premier Inn New Street Station (we’ve also stayed at City Bridge Street), where interconnecting rooms worked brilliantly for our family. We had dinner at Wetherspoons, which was great for picky eaters.

If you’re following our 2-day Birmingham itinerary, Cadbury World is perfect for the first morning, followed by LEGOLAND Discovery Centre in the afternoon or the next morning, depending on your schedule. (See the full itinerary here)
